Coming From Behind
'Inspiration For You' from Randy Mitchell
When you think about it, we're all born an underdog. We enter this world with no skills, prospects, luck, or abilities. It's all up to us, the individual, to make it happen. There's some truth that who you know in this world can make a difference. But for my money, I much prefer seeing someone who's disadvantaged, struggling, underprivileged, or even poor setting life's goals then finding a way to make his/her life a huge success.
As some may realize, I live in Dallas and am a proud Texas native. So naturally, when fall rolls around I tend to glue my attention inside the TV

Bible and Quote - November 25-29
'Bible verse and quote' from Jan Couns
Do not lift up your horn on high.. Psalm 75:5a The humble man realizes that beauty, strength, rank, success, power and wealth are gifts of God. He is their author. His mercy, not our wisdom, secured them to us. Yet how many are swollen with pride by the possession of even one of these things! William S. Plumer, 1802-80, pastor, professor, author
Do not speak with insolent pride. Psalm 75:5b Ridicule, with malice in it, will often wound, and little do we know how many may have gone with broken hearts all their days through unkind words that have been spoken. Charles

Thoughts on Peter
'God's Words For US' from Cecelia Lester
Thoughts about Peter
Journal Entry- February 26,2004
Mark 14:27-31
Do you have a favorite disciple? Have you ever thought about how human they were?
Peter boasted to Jesus, “The others might leave you but I will follow you even to your death.” Jesus replied, “Peter, you are wrong about this, in fact you will deny me today three times before the cock crows twice.” Mark 14:29-30
This man Peter is a very interesting person to modern day readers. He is best described as impetuous. William Barclay describes him as “having

Cold Morning
'Chip Shots from the Ruff of Life' from Tom Kelley
I can remember years ago going to my friend's house and seeing their heating stove sitting in the front room of their house. Clearly seen on the front of the stove were the words, "Warm Morning". Over the years I have come to appreciate those stoves as being dependable and true to their name. My wife and I even had one at one of the homes we have rented over the years. We had a lot of warm mornings from our Warm Morning.
You can imagine the shock we had then this past Saturday morning when we awoke to temperatures outside that were below zero with an indoor temperature of 57

Economic Deists
''Winging It' from Stan Smith
Let's just say you're a good Christian. You know, not just a professing Christian, but genuine. You read your Bible. You go to church. You have faith in Christ and a real relationship with Him. You try to be a godly person. A real Christian. I have to ask, are you an economic deist?
We all know the difference between a theist and an atheist. The theist believes in God and the atheist believes there is no God. Clear enough. What's the difference between a theist and a deist? Well, deism is the belief that God created the world and then sort of took His hands off, so to speak. It

Resistez!
'The Way' from Kevin Pauley
“And I assure you of this: If anyone acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I, the Son of Man, will openly acknowledge that person in the presence of God’s angels. But if anyone denies me here on earth, I will deny that person before God’s angels. – Luke 12:8-9
Two hundred years ago, in the southern French town of Aigues-Mortes, a young girl named Marie Durant was dragged before the court and charged with heresy. Marie was a Huguenot. She was bright, attractive and only fourteen years old. In those days, fourteen was marriageable. She was commanded

Comfort in Penitence III - Psalm 38 (11-24-10)
'Today's Little Lift' from Jim Bullington
Like the man I saw in the grocery store yesterday who apparently skipped a treatment of hair coloring, I know that after this introduction, my roots will be showing. As a younger man in the late sixties, I used to enjoy a CBS TV show called Hee Haw. It was a country variety show with an oversized emphasis on corn pone, corn liquor, and just pure corn! One of the regular items on the show featured the singing of a customized weekly song called Gloom, Despair, and Agony on Me. If you're too young to remember it, check it out on You Tube; if you remember it, that's all it will take to

When No One Understands You
'Word from Scotland' from Sandy Shaw
What are we to do when no one else understands our goal – when we know that it is Almighty God who has given us a goal, and aim, a purpose.
God gave Noah a vision to save the planet. How did Noah handle getting this Ark built when there were so few people around him who realised what was happening? God had

The broken jar
'Refreshment in Refuge' from Gina Burgess
Sometimes broken things fascinate me. It was a passion with my Dad to fix broken things. He was an engineer without a degree. If something was beyond repair, he would set the thing aside to make sure there were no parts or pieces that could be used to fix something else. I cannot testify that he ever threw anything away except maybe used paper towels or Kleenex. There isn’t enough room here to itemize all the handy tools and gadgets that Dad had engineered.
When he passed away, my sister and I found little bitty pieces parts organized in boxes, cans, and other containers

Run for Your Life
'Voice of Inspiration' from Andy Castro
One warm day while walking on a trail, I saw an etched message carved on the path. It read, “TURN BACK”. For a moment I actually felt a touch of concern. Then I had to laugh at the humor.
But isn’t this what we often hear in our minds when we want to try something new or when the Lord is showing us a bit of our future. I’ve heard this voice many times in my life. It was loudest when I went parachuting. Everything inside of me yelled, “STAY IN THE PLANE!” Obviously, it was a false alarm.
I remember opening night of a play in which I had a
The last two days have been fun and informative. I had the opportunity to spend Tuesday evening and all day Wednesday at Johnson Bible College near Knoxville, Tennessee. Though I graduated from Kentucky Christian College I also claim Johnson Bible College as my alma mater having spent two years there prior to my enrollment at K.C.C. Being back on campus brought back the proverbial "flood of memories."I drove all the way through the campus up past and around "Old Main",
Daily Refractions
Words to Ponder
This is their favourite term, 'Of course I am a Christian', they say. Now, the very use of that term suggests that there is something wrong. There is no 'of course' about being a Christian. It is something entirely new. It is by no means inevitable or something which is bound to happen. Indeed, becoming a Christian is a crisis, a critical event, a great upheaval which in the New Testament is described in such terms as a new birth, or a new creation, or a new beginning. More than that, it is there described as being a supernatural act wrought by God Himself, something which is comparable to a dead soul being made alive. It means the direct intervention of God in a human life by His infinite grace in and through Jesus Christ His Son. It is something therefore which must stand out in one s life and to which one must always look with amazement and gratitude. In view of all this, therefore, the true Christian does not say, 'Of course I am a Christian', but rather, 'By the infinite grace and mercy of God I am what I am, I am a Christian' . - Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981)

Genesis 25; Psalms 18; Luke 14:1-24:
She bore to him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim. The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All of these were the sons of Keturah. Now Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac; but to the sons of his concubines, Abraham gave gifts while he was still living, and sent them away from his son Isaac eastward, to the land of the east.
